The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Customer Reviews

:
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from BeeJay -- Bait and Switch : , but I would caution others about buying these "free" Kindle editions. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2020 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Corine Larson -- TERRIBLE FORMATTING! : Wish I would have read the one star reviews. This book is the size of a magazine, has no page numbers, and is poorly formatted (one page will have text half-way down, and then it continues on the next page. Some dialogue is also formatted incorrectly. ) The formatting is so bad, it interrupts the flow of the book I have taken good formatting for granted until I bought a book with terrible formatting (this one.) I will be purchasing all of my books from a legitimate publishing house next time. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Irene Y -- SEAWOLF PRESS makes classics look like a first edition! : I don't need to write a review of the story of Tom Sawyer but it is worth mentioning that the publisher, SEAWOLF PRESS made this copy a pleasure to own. It's a first class publication using quality paper, beautiful sketches in each chapter that are clear, refined and properly placed to enhance the particular chapter. The font size is just right for me. It's a beautiful book and one that I will not be giving away. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2018 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from JA -- So what was the topic? : I mostly enjoy these books, but this one is not my cup of tea. Even though I read this through and through, I absolutely was not into the plot. Waiiit, allow me to rephrase that. I didn't even think this book is complete. It is hard to read and understand if the book doesn't even have the basics of writing. I honestly thought the book is boring and more tiring to read as it went, the only thing that made me read this whole book was becase it was my bookclub book. I would've tossed my kindle away from me or read a comic or fantasy. I this feels like there is a edited version of this book. I liked the push for the start, but after that, KABOOM I dont know what was happening. I would just like to say that this book was tiring and boring, and I am NOT looking forward the series at all. It was like, as if there is a complete version of this book and it felt like a sample to me. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Richard Albanese -- Obligatory for the Twain Fanboy, but temper your expectations : I’ve been a Mark Twain fan for years, sticking mostly to his lesser know works like Roughing It and Letters from the Earth, etc... I had been avoiding reading Tom Sawyer because it felt too obligatory and I feared it would not live up to the hype. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Linda Bachand -- Physical copy is done great! : Seeing the reviews. It looks like they really screwed up the Kindle version. I purchased the physical copy because it's for my son's homeschool. I can assure you since I am reading it aloud to him that there are no weird additions in it. Well my copy at least. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from E. Doty -- A classic, well spoken : Tom Sawyer (and Huckleberry Finn) are books I somehow avoided reading all my life. I decided, as a homeschooling parent, to add them to my middle-schooler's curriculum this year with the Audible feature so I can listen to them, too. My student hates to read aloud, and we are coming off of a literature-rich curriculum where I was reading aloud a lot and my throat wanted a break from that. We are both enjoying this book (not quite at the end yet). The Audible reader sounds a lot like Hal Holbrook who played Mark Twain on stage and screen, so he navigates that old Missouri lingo like a natural. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Alexei V. Lopez Enriquez -- A Child's Quixote... : No doubt this is one of North America's classics due to its scope and enjoyability. A bildungsroman that depicts clearly the mind of a child of the times; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will have any reader find delight in the simplicity of times past. Its main character's problematic conduct leads him to the most astonishing adventures and problems that only good will may help him avoid. Amazing and fun since the very first page. The source and father of many books in Latin America, the one that comes to my mind: "El juguete rabioso". ( Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2018 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Val Adam -- One of my childhood books... but rubbish print : After more than 30 years I still remember at dialogue level parts of this book, despite of the fact I read it in a foreign language. Mark Twain is a classic. I bought it for my 10 years old son and he read it in two days. Brilliant book and will recomend to any child. However, 4 stars due to the printing material not the book itself (which is 10 stars). It was printed on very chap paper similar with the ordinary ASDA multipourpouse copy paper. If anyone read tis review I advise you 100% to buy this book but not this printed version. If you can find a better quality is a book to have it for generations in your library. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Can/Dec -- Beautiful pocketable edition of a book full of great children’s adventure stories and fun. : This is a superb little edition of this great book. The Book is beautifully produced with a hard back binding and nice thin paper. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 7, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nandhini(Books and Bliss) -- It's Mark Twain.. : I went for the Everyman's Library hardcover edition.. Because I am a book collector and I really enjoy buying such amazing and beautiful books. The book was in great condition. ( Reviewed in India on May 8, 2019 )
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Toby Lawson -- Do not buy this paperback version. : DON'T BUY THIS VERSION. Great source material but this is a terribly published print. Its cheap (why I bought it) but not worth the terrible print quality. Many sentences do not flow and miss out words. Tiny text (shown in comparison to a normal book in photo). This review is about the paperback version, I don't know about the ebook version. Read this classic through a properly published version NOT this one. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 22, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from RYAN FIENNES -- Macmillan Collector's Library : I purchased the MacMillan Collector's Library Edition of this book: they are very compact, hardback editions - smaller than paperbacks - and come complete with dust jacket and ribbon page marker.
